About Matt

As someone who was raised in a household that loved and cherished music, it was only natural that Matt would gravitate towards playing. When he was 12, his parents made a brave decision that would change his life: they bought him his first set of drums. Eventually, Matt would go on to graduate from the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA in 2012 with a degree in Music Performance (focus on drums), followed by coursework in Jazz Studies at TX State University in San Marcos, TX.

Matt has played professionally in multiple gigging and touring bands, including local favorites Koodookoo, Buried in the Sun, and the Chris Hall Band, and worked as a session player in recording studios. He also teaches beginner piano, as well as beginner to intermediate guitar, and has experience as a luthier with Moniker Guitars, building and repairing guitars, as well as showing and demonstrating guitars at FFF Fest and Austin City Limits Festivals.

With 5+ years of teaching under his belt, Matt loves to work with students of all ages, teaching guitar, drums, and piano, along with foundational rhythmic concepts, drum set technique, and groove analysis. Matt’s goal as an educator is to keep lessons fun and productive, focusing on short and long term goals that ultimately make students competent musicians with something powerful to say musically.
