  Raina is a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter studying at Sense & Color.

  Story Lane is an acoustic folk/jazz duo featuring Amy Boyd and Todd McKimmey of Sense & Color on vocals and guitar.
  
• 7:45pm Chris Smith
  Chris is the very musical dad of our band’s keyboard player, and a professional pop/rock guitarist who plays frequently in the Austin area.

  [Insert Band Name Here] is the headlining rock band of Sense & Color, featuring River McKimmey and Tyler Work on guitar, Miles Boyd on vocals, Jacob Troller on drums, Rory Day on keys/vocals, and Chloé Orovio on bass (bass tonight will be played by Todd McKimmey, but Chloé will be back next show). Come on out and cheer on our rockstar students!

Cherrywood Coffeehouse is a great little eclectic coffeehouse, restaurant, and live music venue in Austin off of I-35 and 38 1/2th St. near the UT campus. Their cute little outdoor stage is the perfect spot for our rock band, so come on out and join us for a night of free music!

Today is another recital day for Sense & Color School of Music! It’s September 17, 2023.

This recital is at Kick Butt Coffee. Kick Butt Coffee offers a variety of snacks and drinks to choose from. The recital starts, people walk up. Music is filling the air! People order food. The food is yummy! So are the smells of the food. The music is good! There is a drum, piano, and microphone on the stage. You may watch the video to see clips of people’s performances. Not many because this recital is only 2 hours. Now you may be saying “but Keller, 2 hours is a while. Especially to a kid!” I get that. But some of the other recitals were up to 5 hours! So this is kind of short compared to the other ones. Anyways, let’s get onto another topic other than this. Well, what would the topic be?

I’m not sure. Might be the end. Kick Butt Coffee is awesome! Just watch the video and peace out!

In case you haven’t seen them play at our recitals, our student rock band ROCKS! They’re playing next on 9/17 at Kick Butt Coffee, then 9/29 at Cherrywood Coffeehouse, and then 12/9 at the Lucky Rabbit in Jonestown. Here they are playing American Idiot by Green Day at our last recital.

A New Band Is Forming Now!

Our band directors, Mario and Todd, will host band rehearsals on Fridays from 6:15pm-8:00pm. The monthly band fee is $139, which covers a weekly 1hr45min rehearsal in addition to your regular private lessons. Space is very limited, so email staff@senseandcolor.com if you’re interested in joining us.

Notes / Requirements

• Open to Sense & Color students ages 10-18. (Honestly, age isn’t as important a factor as the ability to stay on task for rehearsals.)
• All instruments welcome. Must know your instrument well enough to be able to follow directions in a group setting.
• Members will be given chord charts and/or sheet music for band songs. If you don’t sightread yet, that’s okay, but members will be expected to work on their own or in private lessons to learn their individual parts.
• Band members must attend rehearsals! We know sometimes life happens and students will have to miss a practice—but absences affect the whole group, so attending rehearsals should be a priority.
